About Dairy Foods

Today’s dairy case looks much different than it did 50 years ago, making it easy to meet the federal government’s dietary recommendations for three servings of dairy a day. And, portable packaging makes it convenient to grab dairy products on-the-go, or as part of a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Milk
For many years, milk has been hailed as nature's most perfect food. In addition to tasting great, milk is incredibly nutritious. Whether it’s whole or fat-free, white or chocolate, milk is a naturally nutrient-rich food that provides calcium, potassium, other minerals, vitamins and protein.  A diet that includes three servings of milk may help reduce the risk of osteoporosis, high blood pressure and colon cancer.

Yogurt
Yogurt is one of the most versatile dairy products. Loaded with calcium, riboflavin, and protein, yogurt has many benefits and can be enjoyed on its own as a snack or as a low-fat substitution in some of your favorite recipes, such as dips and desserts. One of yogurt’s most powerful benefits is the presence of probiotics (such as Acidophilus), or living microorganisms that when consumed in sufficient amounts provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. For example, probiotics can help promote a healthy digestive system.
